Lessons From The Neighborhood With Hedda Sharapan

Join Howie and Ryan as they take a trip back to one of everyone’s favorite neighborhood, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Listen as we invite Hedda Sharapan to our My Disney Class Podcast neighborhood to discuss what it was like to work with Fred Rogers and how she is carrying on his mission today.  Hedda served as Assistant Director, Assistant Producer, and Associate Producer on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, working closely with Fred since 1966.  As Director of Early Childhood Initiatives at the Fred Rogers Company, Hedda is helping to carry on the Rogers legacy through writings, speeches at conferences, developing and presenting professional development materials for people who work with children, children’s museum exhibits, web site articles and other special projects.  Hedda is also a Senior Fellow at The Fred Rogers Center, where she works to continue the Center’s mission of helping children grow as confident, competent, and caring human beings.

We really think you are going to enjoy hearing from Hedda about her work with Fred and how everything they did was centered around the growth and development of the child.  When we put the child and the child’s well being at the center of what we do in education, doors of all kinds open up for our students and only good can come from that.  Hedda also shares some of the wonderful resources that she and her team has developed to assist families and educators in cultivating children’s imagination, wonder, and whole self.  These materials can be found at www.pbskids.org/rogers and you can also find shows like Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Odd Squad, and Peg + Cat.  These are just some of the wonderful resources and lessons that you can learn about on this episode of My Disney Class but the real value in today’s show is the feeling that you get listening to Hedda.  Dare we say that “ It’s such a good feeling to know your alive.  It’s such a happy feeling: You’re growing inside.  And when you wake up ready to say, I think I’ll make a snappy new day. It’s such a good feeling, a very good feeling, The feeling you know that we’re friends.”  Fitting lyrics written by Fred Rogers, that he ended his show with and we’d like to leave you with today, friends.
